Such a beautiful environment to begin a very special journey! Thanks to all who continue to make miracles possible.
I want to express my appreciation for all of you. And I really mean all! Nobody excluded! All disciplines that are at Kirkurd. I have a lot of respect for you all. The way you treat us and me is amazing. You were always kind, respectful, present, helpful, professional and funny humour. I never felt that I am less a human than you all are. I never felt like a patient (like top-down) I never felt I am a problem seeker alcoholic. I always felt equal with whoever I was in interaction with. So dear staff you are made my stay in Kirkurd pleasant, safe and comfortable. Thank you all. You are doing a great job, not only helping us (me) addicts. But also the whole of society.
— Past patient
I personally at Belgravia Therapy have been referring to Castle Craig and Smarmore for many years and have had many happy patients returned to me from the excellent primary care which they received at your facilities.
Not only have you made myself and my supervisor extremely welcome on site visits. It has always felt as if Castle Craig, the founding family and personal service is part of the culture and fabric you delivery with the highest industry standards.
It is a pleasure working with Castle Craig and Smarmore and I fully intend to continue referring clients and building on what is already an important and bonded relationship with Belgravia Therapy.
— Caroline Curtis Dolby, Psychotherapist, Belgravia Therapy
Thank you for all the help and guidance you’ve given me throughout my stay here. You’ve given me back confidence and hope and the faith to go on.
The Castle is an amazing place. Before I went there I was an alcoholic and an addict in despair. Without getting the fantastic care from all the staff I would still be a wreck. Castle Craig saved my life and for that I will be eternally grateful.
Thanks to all the therapists who helped me come to terms with the loss of my beloved wife. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
From the first (HBOT) session I could feel it working – I was much more talkative, the agony of withdrawal eased and my concentration started to return.
— Bradley Neill, article from The Sun, 28 April 2017
If it if was not for CC and my peers i would certainly be 6 feet under, I personally think CC is a place where magic happens.
I cannot describe the magic this place holds. It saved me from a place so much worse than death, it saved me from the powers of alcoholism. I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to have my way here, nothing but gratitude for CC xx
Start2Stop have referred people needing primary treatment to Castle Craig for many years. This is because Castle Craig is a genuine centre of excellence. The care offered by Castle Craig is world-class and delivered with expertise and love. It’s a place where people with additive disorders get well.
— Dr Cosmo Duff Gordon, Founder of Start2Stop
With the help of Castle Craig, AA and God’s will I feel a new person, able to do anything I wish except drink alcohol.
— M. Lanark
I’d never been in contact with horses before and I did have some fear of being around them at first but what I learned about myself from even the first [equine therapy] session with them was absolutely incredible. I walked away stunned by the experience.
— Steven Lowe
Since I left Castle Craig my life’s been absolutely wonderful. I feel happy. I feel comfortable in my skin. I feel absolutely free. I don’t feel frightened anymore. I can manage life.
— Charlene, treated for drug addiction
8 years ago I came to Castle Craig. Today I can say I am certainly enjoying the ride.
— Joe S. 2007
Castle Craig has always been high on my list of options for treating patients who need a safe, spacious, secure and tranquil environment in which to seek their early recovery from addiction. Highly recommended.
— Dr Mike McPhillips, Consultant Psychiatrist, The Chelsea Consulting Rooms
Thank you for looking after Lewis during his time with you at Castle Craig. The day I dropped him off you promised that you would look after my son – and you certainly did that. After many years I now have Lewis back and I can’t tell you just how amazing that is!!! Lewis continues to do well and is a joy to be around. The work you do is incredible and really does save lives.
— Mother of patient
I have always had excellent experiences with Castle Craig. They are responsive to any queries – even the most challenging. CC provides a safe and supportive space for clients to take an honest look at themselves, and ascertain what changes need to be made.
The McCann family provide an excellent backdrop to a rigorous and well designed treatment programme. Knowing the family are there reassures that the centre has integrity and strong foundations.
Thank you Castle Craig.
— Virginia Graham, Private Addictions Counsellor, London
I don’t feel sorry anymore about anything, I don’t feel guilty anymore and most importantly I don’t feel so lonely and misunderstood. After that 45 year long struggle I am free!
I firmly believe that CC saved my life and i see many people on a daily basis that could benefit from the care that CC provides.
This course is wonderfully healing. I felt released from the fears that held me in the past and placed firmly on my own feet in the present moment. Since the course, I have gone forward empowered with the tools it gave me, to make healthier relationships with others and particularly with myself. I believe this course would benefit everyone of us, regardless of whether we think we have a problem or not, so if you have the opportunity to do it, take it!
To see someone change right in front of you is a modern-day-miracle.
— Maryam Ghaffari
A successful treatment programme for addictive disease needs structure because so often in the lives of our patients there is no structure. The drug dictates how they live their life.
— Senior Therapist
You all mean so much to me. Thanks for all your help and support. Castle Craig is a very special place, it will stay in my heart.
Castle Craig has literally been a lifesaver for my clients.
The quality of therapeutic care is both extremely high and individualised to the client’s needs. Throughout the Covid19 issues Castle Craig have done everything and more to ensure they can continue to help clients in difficulty.
They have kept me abreast of any developments and helped enormously through the admissions process. The team at Castle Craig is second to none and I will, without doubt, continue to refer my clients for treatment there.
— Charlie Birch-Reynardson, TurnAround Addiciton
I want to thank you! I’d like to you so much for all the help you have given Jordan. He has come out of the castle a calmer, clearer and more self-assured person. He now believes he has a future and is very positive about the direction he wants to go in! I’m very hopeful and extremely grateful to you for the wonderful work you do!!
Your kindness has kept me here…. you’ve treated me like a human being and that’s what I’ve become. I will never forget you all. Thanks for showing me a way out!
Thank you all for the beautiful life I have back. I wouldn’t be in this position without the support you all provided, each of you in your own special way. 9.5 months clean and sober.
It is now 5 years ago that I left for treatment at Castle Craig and today I am 5 years clean. Life becomes more and more a pleasant journey and I am day by day more grateful to have a life. Thanks for treatment, it was so good.
Thanks for giving me this chance – I will be forever grateful! I wont forget what this place did for me.
I was a hopeless, chronic alcoholic, full of despair. I am now a contributing member of society, trusted enough to be a priest and run my own parish.
— Fr. Henry
It was a gift that through you I could find a programme such as the twelve steps in which I never have to be alone and hiding again.
The total package is on a whole other level compared to other treatment centres. Thank you!
I’m so glad to be sober at this moment in time. Dealing with what is going on is hard enough, without throwing drink into the mix. I’m living with parents who are in the vulnerability category… being sober allows me to be present and to help them get through this time too. I don’t doubt that alcohol consumed in the levels I drank would affect the immune system. I felt horrendous towards the end of my drinking. My journey began at Castle Craig and it’s where I first learned to start living “one day at a time” – never has this been more true. Stay safe and thank you for working during this time and still providing the excellent care that you do.
— Covid-19 patient
I am pleased to use the rehabilitation facilities at Castle Craig. I have had very good feedback.
— Dr William Shanahan, Medical Director (Private) and Clinical Director of Addictions, The Priory
I had known for long alcohol had a detrimental effect on all aspects of my life. Yet due to the cunning, baffling and powerful nature of alcohol, I believe I could arrest my addiction and regain control of my dysfunctional life. Of course, due to the progressive nature of the illness, I became financially, physically, emotionally and spiritually bankrupt. Existing in a darkness darker than night where my next flit would surely have been the Kird Yard. I was blessed. I was 12 stepped by a Castle Craig alumni with 11 years of sobriety. It was frightening to embark on that journey but the alternative was more so. I was beat. I was powerless over alcohol and my life had become unmanageable. I am now 15 months sober ODAAT. Castle Craig has given me a freedom I could never have imagined. A life beyond my wildest dreams. I will be eternally grateful to Castle Craig and the beautiful human beings that set me on that journey. An angel awaiting their wings.
I went through treatment over 21 years ago and it has worked for me, O.D.A.A.T. (One Day At A Time)
I will be celebrating eleven years of sobriety this year and I cant thank you enough for giving me the privilege to do this.
For me EMDR came as a godsend and certainly made a difference.
As a facilitator of the group I take enormous pleasure seeing the results as patients’ personalities begin to flourish and, despite such distressing histories, they begin to laugh once again.
— Specialist Trauma Therapist
Thank you for everything that you and your wonderful staff have done for me. My time there has constantly held a warm and cherished place in my heart and through my everyday walk of recovery.
Thank you for giving me my Mom back! Before my Mom came to Castle Craig life was pretty horrible, I was constantly worrying about her, and to be honest I felt like I had lost my Mom. But coming to Castle Craig was the best decision she could have made.
My stay at the extended care unit at Castle Craig was an amazing time. Time to reflect, learn, share and practise recovery lifestyle.
Words cannot express how much gratitude I feel. You make people know that there is a wonderful life out there and I certainly intend to enjoy it now.
Re-directed in life and eventual freedom from addiction… I rate this the best treatment centre in Europe
All I can say is Castle Craig works, and the whole set up of the therapeutic community works. This is because of the commitment from all members of staff.
The art class brought me to a free place. When I painted I didn’t think of my problems, by that I learnt more about myself. Every painting is different, my moods and feelings came out in the paintings.
I’m almost 2 years clean and sober and don’t crave for anything! Total abstinence is the only way I believe!
This is the most wonderful place to sort out your troubles – although you don’t think so to start with!
The staff are simply out of this world. The location is peaceful and beautiful. Only when I was near leaving did I actually appreciate how fabulous the whole place was.
If you are in two minds. It’s easy, GO THERE.
— Ed M
My experiences with those who have been through Castle Craig have been nothing but positive.
— Glasgow-based GP
Many cocaine users are ‘functioning addicts’ for 10 years or more. But excessive use of cocaine can lead to dysfunctional judgment, risky decision-making and reckless gambling with company assets.
— Peter McCann, Chairman of Castle Craig Hospital
If it was not for the staff at Castle Craig I wouldn’t be alive today x will always be grateful for all the support they gave me xx
I have worked with the team from Castle Craig on and off for many years. When you need safe and high quality treatment for addiction, there are very few options within the UK. Castle Craig has always been one of a very small group of UK treatment providers that we trust, and the McCann family who own it are widely known and respected within the world of inpatient treatment. When you need reliable, safe, and trustworthy inpatient treatment, we recommend Castle Craig.
— Barny Guthrie, Chief Executive, Clinical Partners
I would like to thank you all, as without you my recovery would not be possible. Words cannot say how much this means to me and my family.
I celebrated four years of sober living at the end of September and am living a simple and contented life. I will never forget those who helped me in the Castle.
I still feel very privileged to be one of CC’s patients. I started there recovery for the very rest of my life. I got in fact a new life, with new horizons full of hope, belief and love.
Life is good at my end. I celebrated six years of sober life on the 29th September this year and it gets better and better.
I have had excellent experiences of referring patients to Castle Craig.
The assessment process is thorough and offers patients lots of reassurance. I was able to refer several patients in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and the process was smooth and straightforward. The weekly updates are extremely helpful to keep in touch with the patients and there is the ability to speak to a therapist when needed.
I cannot recommend Castle Craig highly enough.
— Dr Chi-Chi Obuaya, Consultant Psychiatrist, London
