Ten Ways to Stay Sober in the Winter

Before you were sober, winter was probably the time to have a few beers or alcoholic eggnog. It is a common misconception that the sober life is a boring life when that could not be farther from the truth. There are a lot of fun, clean, sober activities you can do this winter that abusive substances would have stopped you from doing.

One way to have sober fun is to catch up on a series you have been wanting to see for a while or a nice movie filled with popcorn and non-alcoholic beverages. A second way is to invite friends over to host a potluck dinner party where everyone brings their favorite traditional dish that they make every winter. A third way is to go bowling as being intoxicating would not have given you the coordination or strength to be able to play. Bowling is good exercise and a sport that can make you laugh along with your friends whether you hit a strike or a gutterball.

Because you would normally spend your money on drugs or alcohol, you will have a full wallet going forward. A fourth way is to use the money you have to treat yourself to a nice meal at your favorite restaurant. Make sure to ask the waiter or waitress to take away the wine menu and do not go to a restaurant with an open bar. A fifth way is to use your money to reward yourself with a few nice outfits that will make you feel good or go to the mall to buy your friends some gifts for the holidays.

A sixth way is to play board games such as Scrabble, Monopoly, or a game of cards to enhance your problem-solving skills, your memory, and your brain power. A seventh way is to follow recipes like gingerbread cookies, fruit cake, a turkey, and anything else you want to make this winter as it is a productive use of time and will unleash your creativity. An eighth way is to go sledding as you only need a sled and a hill full of snow, giving you a great workout. A ninth way is to go ice skating inside or outside as you will get another workout skating around the entire rink. A tenth way is to try a new activity that you have never done before to make new traditions this winter.
