Facilities & Accommodation

Facilities and accommodation at Castle Craig continue to be upgraded. This includes the refurbishment of many of our bedrooms, new carpets in the corridors and the installation of a new reception desk in the main entrance hall.

We have also created new counselling and consulting rooms in the main Castle building and we have created a new dedicated examination room and doctor’s office next door to our main nursing station.

We have also opened an additional unit in the Intensive Treatment Unit at the Castle, named Kirkurd Unit – which is the name of the ancient ruined church on the Castle Craig estate. Kirkurd Unit serves as a primary care unit for up to 12 male patients who have already been detoxed. The unit is led by Senior Therapy Manager Mark Abrami. The rooms are single and double en-suites, and there is also a nursing centre within the same building.

Castle Craig’s capacity in first stage – primary care, has now increased from 52 to 64 beds and this enables us to process more admissions in a typical week. Early feedback from the unit has been very positive.

Mark Abrami began training and working at Castle Craig Hospital in 2008 and gained the Diploma in Addictions Counselling from Castle Craig Hospital in 2009. Mark currently works in the Intensive Treatment Unit as a senior therapist and COSCA practitioner member.

Mark has completed postgraduate training in psychotherapy and has also recently completed an MSc in Alcohol and Drug Studies at The University Of Glasgow.
