Insurance Cover for Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment

Many policies cover residential alcohol and drug rehab treatment – this depends on the insurance company and level of insurance package that you have chosen. If you are covered by private healthcare insurance through a package which you pay into privately yourself, or an executive/professional package which your company pays for, you may be eligible for funding towards addiction treatment at a residential alcohol and drug rehab clinic like Castle Craig.

Admissions through private health insurance can be arranged quickly, normally within 48 hours, providing our admissions team have all relevant information and confirmation that your private health insurance package covers residential detox or other treatments you may require.

How Do I Start the Admissions Process at Castle Craig with Medical Insurance?

We advise patients who think their medical insurance provider can cover funding for Castle Craig to contact their provider as a first step. It’s important to make sure that your policy covers addiction treatment, and not mental health support alone. Regardless, it’s worth checking if using health insurance for rehab is possible with your policy. If your provider approves and authorises you for addiction treatment at Castle Craig, have your authorisation code and member number ready when you call us.

Contact Castle Craig once you’ve spoken with your insurance provider.

How to Contact Castle Craig

If you believe funding is possible, then the process is very similar to our typical admissions process.

If you feel like Castle Craig is the right fit for you or a loved one, then the next step is to contact us via the above methods and organise a pre-admission assessment. To organise this, simply contact whoever has been helping you so far.

This will be a conversation typically lasting 30 minutes, you’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences in more detail and answer some important questions. This stage is crucial as it will help us truly understand your needs; our therapeutic and clinical team will use this to devise a personalised treatment plan.

Our commitment to your privacy and safety is paramount. Should there be a need for further clarification, our Consultant Psychiatrist may reach out via phone or email, always handling your information with the utmost confidence.

Our admissions team will ask you for your insurance information, and submit a funding request form on your behalf.

We will handle all of the administration and will liaise directly with your insurance provider, we understand this is a stressful time and want to make the process as easy as possible.

Step 4

To guarantee a treatment programme that’s both suitable and secure, we request contact details for your GP. Many other treatment centres may opt to skip this step and get you through the doors as soon as possible. To us, this feels extremely irresponsible.

Many patients are in very vulnerable states when they first arrive, and to deliver safe and effective treatment, we must get a full picture.

Our Consultant Psychiatrist may want to discuss your admission with your GP if you have a more complex history, for example, if you have a dual diagnosis or a physical complication. Getting more information about your medical history helps us to design a personalised treatment plan that is best suited to your needs.

What Addiction Treatment Does Medical Insurance Cover?

It’s important to be aware of what exactly what kind of treatment you will be covered for when coming to residential rehab via health insurance:

  • Medical Insurers typically cover a programme lasting 4 weeks / 28 days
  • It may possible to request an extension of cover, insurers can sometimes fund an additional 2 weeks of treatment depending on your policy. Speak to our Finance Department about this during your stay at Castle Craig. Please note this is not guaranteed, and it’s up to the discretion of your insurance provider.
  • Medical insurance funding for rehab usually means you will get your own private accommodation, so you may not need to share a bedroom with other guests.
  • Our continuing care programme is often not covered by insurance, we strongly recommend all patients who come to Castle Craig to sign-up to our 6 month aftercare programme. Private funding patients join automatically, but if you’re coming via medical insurance you will need to pay separately. Speak to our admissions team about this when enquiring about treatment.
  • Treatment funded by healthcare insurance providers can only be arranged prior to admission, and not after a patient has been admitted into treatment or completed treatment.
