Online Rehab

PRO Pathway

Experience the best of both worlds for a lower cost: residential + online rehab. 3 weeks inpatient, detox and rehab with a further 3 weeks online

Our unique approach to online therapy allows you to experience 3 weeks of residential rehab (including detox) with 3 weeks of online therapy from home. The PRO Pathway programme is an effective way to leave addiction behind and find balance in your life.

PRO Pathway

PRO Pathway, low cost rehab

This Part Residential/Online programme (PRO Pathway) is a unique approach to addiction treatment combining 3 weeks inpatient assessments, detox and rehab with a further 3 weeks on our intensive online continuing care programme.

It is the best of both worlds at an affordable price, starting at £12,000 for a private ensuite detox room, moving to a shared room at Castle Craig, then continuing at home for 3 weeks of intensive online therapy.

Components of the PRO Pathway

  • Biopsychosocial assessments
  • Detoxification
  • Individual therapy/Group therapy
  • 12 Step abstinence-based model
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Motivational enhancement therapy (MET) approaches
  • Mindfulness/Psychoeducational lectures
  • Recovery literature and therapeutic exercises
  • Complementary therapies
  • Online group therapy/Online one-to-one therapy
  • Continuing care plan

Assessments and Detox

These take place at Castle Craig and includes a biopsychosocial and chronological substance use/ behaviour history; comprehensive needs assessment; problem identification; personal goals and objectives.

Patients receive a consultation with a Consultant Psychiatrist and any issues during the 3 weeks of treatment are discussed by our Psychiatrist-led multidisciplinary team.

Patients are assessed and detoxed in our Kirkurd Unit which provides one-week detoxification and introduction to groups and individual therapy.

Kirkurd has Coronavirus safety measures in place and we provide two Covid-19 tests, and a short period of isolation with an online connection and medical and therapeutic attention for 5-7 days before patients join the rest of the community at Castle Craig.

Patients are allowed to go outside and this period gives you a short time to detox and for your body to recover before joining our intensive therapy programme. Our recent satisfaction report for the Kirkurd Unit scored a 100% satisfaction rate.

Residential Rehab

On joining the patient community you will be immersed in our 12 Step treatment programme.

With your therapist, you will explore links between thoughts, feelings, physical symptoms and behaviours via a 12 Step, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) approach. Our daily group therapy sessions allow you to share and learn from others in the same situation as you with a therapist present.

Our inpatient programme offers full board, fitness and wellness, intensive therapeutic treatment programme and medical services, and complementary therapies in our 50-acre private estate.

3 Weeks Online Programme

Our intensive online continuing care programme consists of 2.5 weekly individual therapy sessions (two full-length sessions and one shorter ‘catch up’ session) and 2 weekly group therapy sessions.

Our digital therapy platforms connect you directly to our experienced addictions therapists and clinicians from the comfort of your own home.

We have structured our online addiction therapy programme to give you the flexibility to fit in your therapy around your day-to-day life.

For those who struggle to afford residential rehab, this is an affordable treatment option while still retaining online face-to-face contact and the dynamics of group sharing and learning.

Our online learning platform is set up to provide you with calendar appointments, recorded psycho-educational lectures, links to specially selected online recovery groups and our programme literature.

PRO Pathway – How It Works

The PRO Pathway programme offers you the chance to detox from alcohol and drugs, rebuild your life, improve your relationships, address mental health issues and enhance your work performance.

How will I keep in touch with my therapist?

You will receive a secure login to our online learning platform which is set up to provide you with calendar appointments for 1:1 and group therapy, recorded psycho-educational lectures, links to specially selected online recovery groups and our programme literature.

We also use email and phone as a way to reach you.

What are CBT and MET?

CBT and MET help you to realistically evaluate your negative thoughts and unhelpful behaviours and find alternative coping strategies.

What equipment do I need for online therapy?

You need a good internet connection and a camera function on your laptop or a smartphone. If you work through a desktop then you will need a webcam and earphones with an inbuilt microphone.

Is the line secure?

We use systems that meets recommended standards to protect the privacy and security of teletherapy sessions. Our therapists always operate in a private room.

How much does online therapy cost?

Costs range from £12,000 for the PRO Pathway (private ensuite detox room, shared room thereafter) to £16,000 for a private room for the whole 3 weeks with a private bathroom. Our Admissions team can help advise you on any questions you may have about costs and funding of all the treatment at Castle Craig.

Is the PRO Pathway open to everyone?

At Castle Craig, we usually recommend that patients stay for at least 5 weeks of treatment for the best outcomes and a lower chance of relapse. Because our PRO Pathway patients only stay with us for 3 weeks we can’t offer the programme to people with clinically complex issues that require a longer-term treatment solution. For these people, we recommend our full treatment programme for at least 5 weeks.

During the pre-admission assessment, you will be asked a series of questions by your case manager, a lead therapist and a consultant psychiatrist to assess that the PRO Pathway programme is right for you.

Initial Evaluation and Enrollment

Prior to accepting you to the PRO Pathway Programme, you will need to undergo a risk assessment of your suitability for both the residential and online sections of the programme.

The PRO Pathway is suitable for those with:

  • A stable home and work life where a partner or significant other can support you with a commitment to therapy and the partner or significant other is aware that there will be some impact on family life during the programme.
  • Limited budgets for treatment making longer-term residential care inaccessible.
  • Limited time available because of work or caring commitments.

What is Continuing Care?

As you re-engage with your work colleagues, family and society after leaving treatment you are likely to experience many challenges and threats to your recovery. In the safe and confidential setting of our online continuing care therapy, you can address and explore your feelings in a supportive environment.

We have been delivering online therapy for over 10 years.

Castle Craig has been offering ‘teletherapy’ for over 10 years. Evidence shows that those that have completed 2 to 6 weeks in treatment can be vulnerable to relapse when returning home.

Whilst you will have addressed many issues in treatment and broken the denial system, returning to your home community can be a testing time not only for the patient but also their families. We introduced teletherapy counselling at the request of our patients.

Our research has shown that 71% of those that participated in further counselling via teletherapy have had sustained sobriety.

Our Experience

Our own 10 years of online experience

Castle Craig has run a successful Teletherapy Continuing Care Programme for over 10 years. Our therapists are experienced in delivering effective CBT techniques over an online platform and outcomes and patient satisfaction has been consistently high.

“Whilst I worked on a lot of issues at Castle Craig I realised I had more to do. I was able to have a therapist that took me through the next part of the journey. I was unable to go to the secondary unit due to work commitments and teletherapy was invaluable in helping me reintegrate into my family and the world.” (David, Teletherapy client)

The therapists at Castle Craig have a wealth of experience in:

  • Alcohol Addiction/Drug Addiction
  • 12-step facilitation
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Prescription Drug Addiction
  • Gambling Addiction/Family Therapy
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder/Anxiety
  • Gaming Addiction/Consultant Psychiatrist Assessment
  • Psychotherapy Assessment/Eating Disorders/Relapse Prevention/Continuing Care

Research to support online therapy

While the gold standard of care is residential rehab, there is a wide evidence base to support online therapy programmes.

“Clients often led the way, with therapists rapidly discovering that not only was it possible to communicate meaningfully over the Internet, there were even distinct advantages to conversations carried out in this way (Anthony Jung, President of the International Society for Mental Health Online; British Journal of Guidance and Counselling. 2010).

A 2007 study A Comprehensive Review and a Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of Internet-Based Psychotherapeutic Interventions by researchers in the Journal of Technology in Human Services, found strong support for the adoption of online psychological interventions as a legitimate therapeutic activity and suggest several insights in regard to its application.

A 2017 study published in JAMA Psychiatry entitled Effectiveness of Online Collaborative Care for Treating Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Primary Care reported improvements in mental health-related quality of life, mood, and anxiety symptoms, in those who made use of Internet Support Groups combined with computerised CBT.

Read what our online therapy users say:

Even though I am sometimes struggling to find time for both my personal and professional life and recovery I can’t imagine a better way of doing this – I mean it feels like hard work on all those [domains] but at least I did not have to put my life on hold.”

“I don’t know if I could afford to stay in recovery for weeks, but I know this way of doing things, you know, working on yourself online, is actually amazing – I feel the freedom but also the necessity to do the work to get my self through all this dreadful disease.”

“Whilst I had been advised it may be difficult when I got home, I had not realised how difficult it would be in returning to my relationship and job. Without continued counselling, I don’t think I would have got through it as during my counselling sessions we were able to look at my returning to old behaviours and to work on my new attitude. I also benefited from CBT which helped me to continue with changing my thinking, thoughts and feelings.” (Anonymous)
